Interior design - Orgil's project

Bedroom

Location

Veldhoven, The Netherlands

A complete makeover for a preteen's bedroom. The challenge: a fun room combined with the new higher academic demans.

Orgil's story

At the time I began the project, Orgil was 11 years old. He is a very active and intelligent child, although his severe ADHD diagnosis presents a series of very specific requirements to consider. We need to facilitate each of the tasks Orgil will perform in his bedroom.

First, the priority is ensuring he gets a good night's sleep. Second, we need to provide a space where he can complete his homework with as few distractions as possible and maintain focus. Third, we aim to stimulate his creativity with a dedicated area for building and crafts.

Additionally, we will use fabrics that reduce reverberation in the space while also incorporating plenty of storage options to help keep the room tidy.

Focus corners

Because of the space is limited, we use the entire room properly to keep different activities as far away from each other. Every corner has a specific function: sleeping/ resting, Studying/ doing homework and building/crafting.

A place for everything

Toys also have a specific place to be stored. Some are hidden in poufs, others are visible but organized within the wire drawers, and others are displayed along a wall-mounted shelf along the room as creative projects.

Friends passing by

When Orgil's friends pass by and might want to join a construction project, I propose a movable table. By moving it to the center of the room, we create a face-to-face seating arrangement, allowing everyone to work together.

Action wall

Orgil is a child who needs to release some of his energy through physical activity. To support this, I propose a climbing wall as a bed headboard, some modular cushions to create a reading corner, and a drawer-staircase to store his favorite storybooks.

Comfy playground

By placing the furniture along the perimeter, we maximize the central open space in the bedroom. Every object has its place, and the space becomes intuitively organized around this central point. Keeping the area clear on a daily basis, making cleaning easier, and supporting different activities are all priorities together with fun.
